Commercial Autonomous Floor Scrubber in Arlington Heights, Illinois
St John Condos rents villas at the Westin St John Resort for friends from Arlington Heights, Illinois, planning a week together on the island, and our local team answers questions before you book.
Planning a week away with friends from Arlington Heights means balancing many schedules, tastes, and budgets, so it helps to start with a shared plan. A villa rented by the week gives your group a common base, with room to gather for breakfast, spread out during the day, and keep evenings relaxed. Because most of you are coming from a northern state where winters run cold, the warm Caribbean air often feels like the whole point of the trip. Think of the week as a set of loose agreements rather than a tight itinerary. Some friends will want an early start on the water while others prefer a slow morning with coffee. A villa lets everyone pick their own pace without losing the feeling of being together. Talk through arrival days, who handles groceries, and how you will split shared costs before anyone books flights.

Getting from Arlington Heights to St. John
- Reach St. Thomas first. Most visitors fly into St. Thomas, which uses the airport code STT, and then take a taxi to Red Hook. Coordinate your flights from the Chicago area so the group lands near the same time, which makes the transfer simpler. Share one contact number with everyone before departure, and confirm who is picking up checked bags or rental items so no one is left waiting at baggage claim.
- Pick your departure window. Choosing when to leave Illinois for the islands matters more than many people expect. Winter weekends fill quickly and fares tend to rise around holidays, so flexible dates among your friends can open better options. Weather in the Virgin Islands stays warm year round, so the main tradeoff is between peak season crowds and quieter stretches. Agree on a window early and hold it loosely.
- Plan the week together. Once you arrive, the passenger ferry to Cruz Bay is the usual way across from Red Hook. Remember that driving on St. John is on the left, which may feel unfamiliar to the group, so decide in advance who will drive and who will be a passenger. Set a simple shared calendar for meals, outings, and rest days, and leave some open time so the week feels like a getaway rather than a checklist.
Frequently asked questions
How do the friends in our group split the cost of a villa for the week?
Many groups agree on a split before booking and then pay in shares, with one person holding the reservation and collecting payments. Talk openly about bedrooms, dates, and who plans to use the villa most. Agreeing on terms early keeps the trip friendly, and our local team can answer questions about how a week-long rental works before you commit.
Should we plan to rent a car once we reach St. John?
Renting a car gives a group freedom to explore the island, but remember that driving on St. John is on the left and roads can be narrow and winding. Some friends prefer to share one vehicle and rely on taxis for evenings. Decide with your group whether a car fits your plans, and ask our team any questions about getting around before you book.
