Some trips are saved for years. For many people in Mount Pleasant, Iowa, a week on St. John in the US Virgin Islands is that kind of trip, the one you talk about through long winters and plan around for a good while before the booking is made. Iowa sits in the Midwest, where cold months are part of the calendar, so the warm, clear air of the islands can feel like a true change of pace. Expecting a splurge to feel special is reasonable, and it should. A villa stay at the Westin St John Resort gives you room to slow down, with space to spread out and a setting shaped by the island rather than by a crowded hotel floor. St John Condos is a local team that rents villas there, and we are glad to talk through what a splurge can look like before you commit. We would rather you ask questions now than wonder about them later.

Planning your island splurge from Mount Pleasant
- Getting to St. John. Most visitors from Iowa fly into St. Thomas, which uses airport code STT, then take a taxi to Red Hook and catch the passenger ferry to Cruz Bay on St. John. Plan that connection with a little breathing room, since a relaxed arrival makes the first evening far more enjoyable after a long day of travel from the Midwest.
- Choosing when to go. Iowa winters are cold, so many travelers from Mount Pleasant choose to leave during the months when home is at its chilliest. Think about what matters most to you, whether that is calm weather, quiet beaches, or simply the feeling of escaping the season. Share your preferred dates with our team and we will help you weigh the options.
- Planning the stay. Villas are rented by the week, which suits a splurge well because it gives you time to settle in without rushing. Note that driving on St. John is on the left, so consider how you will get around. Also, if you are gathering a group, a commercial autonomous floor scrubber is one example of the modern cleaning technology some properties use, a reminder that the details behind a good stay matter too.
