Your week on St. John, planned from Mounds
- Reaching the island. Most travelers from Mounds fly into St. Thomas, which carries the airport code STT, and then take a taxi to Red Hook. From there you board the passenger ferry to Cruz Bay on St. John. Plan a little slack into your day, since connections and ferry boarding can shift. Once on St. John, remember that driving is on the left side of the road, so take a moment before your first drive.
- Choosing when to leave. Illinois winters are cold and gray, so many families from Mounds look toward the islands in the cooler months of the year, when the air is a little drier and the days feel especially welcome. Summer on St. John is warm and can be quite humid, which suits travelers who enjoy the water and a slower pace. Think about what you want to escape from at home and choose the season that matches that feeling.
- Planning the stay. Villas are rented by the week, which gives you room to settle in rather than rushing from place to place. Decide early how much of the week you want for the water, how much for the island's quieter corners, and how much for simply resting on your own terrace. Send your questions to St John Condos before booking so we can help you match the villa to your party and your plans.
