Commercial Autonomous Floor Scrubber in Monmouth, Illinois
St John Condos helps travelers from Monmouth, Illinois, plan a week of snorkeling and beach days on St. John, rented villas at the Westin St John Resort by the week, with a local team ready to answer questions before you book.
Monmouth sits in the Midwest, where winters are long and cold and the lakes and fields are often frozen or buried in snow for much of the year. For many people from this part of Illinois, a week of warm water and sandy beaches feels like a real change of pace. St. John, in the US Virgin Islands, offers exactly that kind of break, with calm bays, clear water for snorkeling, and a slower rhythm than most mainland trips. A week on the island works well when you plan around the things you actually want to do: floating over reefs in the morning, lying on the sand in the afternoon, and having an easy place to come back to at night. Rented villas at the Westin St John Resort give you room to spread out and set your own pace, and the local team at St John Condos can help you match the stay to the kind of holiday you have in mind.

Planning your week on St. John from Monmouth
- Getting from Monmouth. Most visitors from Monmouth fly to St. Thomas, which is the island's airport, and then take a taxi to Red Hook, where the passenger ferry runs across to Cruz Bay on St. John. Keep your carry-on packed with swim gear, sunscreen, and a light layer for the ferry ride, since the crossing is the easiest way to arrive ready for the water.
- Choosing when to leave Illinois. Think about the season you want before you lock in dates. Leaving a northern winter behind is the usual reason people head to the islands, so picking a window when the sea is calm and the sky is clear will make snorkeling and beach days feel more relaxed. Ask the St John Condos team which weeks suit a snorkeling-focused trip.
- Planning the stay. A rented villa is booked by the week, so decide early how many days you want on the water and how many you want to rest. Bring any gear you care about, because you will want your own mask and fins close at hand. Driving on St. John is on the left, so plan your rides with that in mind before you head out.
Frequently asked questions
Is a week long enough for snorkeling and beach days on St. John?
A week gives you room for several good snorkeling mornings, slow afternoons on the sand, and a day or two to simply rest. Many travelers from the Midwest find that a full week feels right, because the first few days are spent unwinding after a long winter and the rest are spent enjoying the water.
Do I need to bring my own snorkel gear?
Bringing your own mask, snorkel, and fins is a good idea if you have a fit you trust, since it saves you from having to sort through options once you arrive. Commercial autonomous floor scrubbers may be used on some resort property, but that is separate from your gear, so pack what you need for the water and check with the St John Condos team about any questions you have.
