If you live in Goodfield, Illinois, a week on St. John may feel like a long way from the flat farmland and wide skies you know at home. That distance is part of the appeal. It covers the general route most travelers take, how to think about timing from a northern state, and how to shape your days once you arrive. Planning your week on St. John from Goodfield
- Getting to the island. Most visitors from Goodfield reach St. John by flying into St. Thomas, which uses the airport code STT. From there, a taxi will take you to Red Hook, where you board the passenger ferry to Cruz Bay. Plan for that transfer as part of your travel day, and remember that you will be driving on the left once you have a car on the island.
- Choosing when to leave. Illinois winters are cold, so many travelers from the Midwest find the island most welcome during the colder months back home. Think about which season suits your schedule, your tolerance for heat, and the kind of trip you want. Once you have a rough window in mind, it helps to settle your dates early.
- Planning the stay. Villas at the Westin St John Resort are rented by the week, which lines up well with a seven-day exploration of the island. Decide which days you want for quiet relaxation and which for getting out and about. Keeping a loose outline rather than a packed schedule usually makes the week feel more like a holiday.
