Commercial Autonomous Floor Scrubber in Flanagan, Illinois
St John Condos helps three-generation families from Flanagan, Illinois, plan a shared stay at a villa near the Westin St John Resort on St. John, US Virgin Islands, with room for grandparents, parents, and children together.
A trip with grandparents, parents, and children under one roof asks for more planning than a typical getaway, and families leaving Flanagan often find that the hardest part is matching everyone's pace. The island rewards a slower rhythm, so it helps to decide early what the group wants from the days: quiet mornings by the water, a shared dinner each evening, or a few outings that suit the oldest and youngest travelers alike. Villas at the Westin St John Resort give multigenerational groups space to spread out without losing the feeling of being together. You can keep a common room for meals and a separate bedroom for anyone who needs a quieter place to rest. Because the island is small and the resort is set in a calm part of it, the trip tends to feel relaxed, which suits people who are traveling with different needs and energy levels.

Planning a three-generation trip from Flanagan
- Getting from Flanagan. Most visitors reach St. John by flying to St. Thomas, which has the airport code STT, and then taking a taxi to Red Hook and the passenger ferry to Cruz Bay. With grandparents in the group, consider how much walking and how many transfers everyone can handle, and ask the St John Condos team whether a ground transfer or a ride arranged in advance would make the day easier. Plan a bit of slack in the schedule for the ferry and the taxi.
- Choosing when to leave Illinois. Flanagan sits in the Midwest, where winters are cold, so many families look at travel during the colder months as a chance to escape the weather at home. The islands are warm year round, which means the timing decision is mostly about school calendars, work commitments, and the comfort of older relatives who may want to avoid long days of travel. Talk through these needs with everyone before you commit to dates.
- Planning the stay together. Villas are rented by the week, which suits a group that wants unhurried time together. Agree early on who will cook, which days will be open, and which outings are shared versus optional. Renting a car is a common choice, and remember that driving on St. John is on the left, which may take a little adjustment for drivers from Illinois. The St John Condos team can answer questions about the villa layout before you book.
Frequently asked questions
Is a villa a good fit for grandparents, parents, and kids traveling together?
Often it is. A villa gives each generation its own bedroom and a shared living area for meals and conversation. Ask the St John Condos team about the layout of the specific villa you are considering, so you can confirm that bedrooms and bathrooms suit everyone's needs, especially for older travelers who may want a room close to a bathroom.
How should a Flanagan family handle the trip to St. John with older relatives?
Plan the route with comfort in mind. Most trips go through St. Thomas, then a taxi to Red Hook and the passenger ferry to Cruz Bay. Share the plan with your group ahead of time, pack light, and tell the St John Condos team about any mobility needs so they can help you prepare for the transfers.
