Commercial Autonomous Floor Scrubber in Farmington, Illinois
St John Condos helps three-generation families from Farmington, Illinois, plan a shared stay at a villa on St. John, a practical choice when grandparents, parents, and children all want room to spread out together.
A trip for three generations asks a lot of any plan. Grandparents may want quiet mornings, parents want a little time to themselves, and children want to be in the water as soon as possible. A villa rental gives each group its own space while keeping everyone under one roof for meals and conversation. For families setting out from Farmington, this kind of arrangement often feels easier than juggling several hotel rooms. Farmington sits in the middle of the country, far from the ocean, so many travelers from this part of Illinois are used to long drives and cold winters. That background is useful. Planning around the warm Caribbean climate, packing light layers for evenings, and choosing a stay with a kitchen can make the whole group feel more at ease. The island setting rewards patience and slower days, which suits a multigenerational group well.

Getting from Farmington to St. John
- Start with the flight. Most visitors from Farmington fly into St. Thomas, which has the airport code STT. Ask your St John Condos contact which arrival times suit older relatives and young children best. Booking seats together early helps keep the group close, especially if some travelers need aisle access or extra space for bags and mobility aids.
- Cross to the island. From the St. Thomas airport, a taxi takes you to Red Hook, where you board the passenger ferry to Cruz Bay on St. John. Plan for a short, simple transfer with everyone's luggage in hand. Driving on St. John is on the left, so if you rent a car, let the oldest drivers take the wheel only if they feel comfortable with that adjustment.
- Pick the right season. Farmington travelers often head south when winter is at its harshest, which makes the Caribbean feel especially welcome. Consider a window that suits the whole family, keeping in mind school calendars and the health needs of older members. Talk through the options with the St John Condos team before you commit, since they can advise on what the stay will feel like in each season.
Frequently asked questions
Can a villa really work for three generations from Farmington?
Yes, that is one of the main reasons families choose a villa. Separate bedrooms, shared living areas, and a kitchen let each generation keep its own rhythm while still gathering for meals. Tell the St John Condos team who is traveling, including any mobility needs, so they can help you match the right layout to your group.
What should we pack for a mixed-age group from a cold state?
Pack lightweight clothing, swimwear, sun protection, and a few warmer layers for breezy evenings. Medications, copies of prescriptions, and any comfort items for young children are worth bringing in carry-on bags. A short list reviewed with the whole family before departure keeps surprises to a minimum on arrival day.
