Commercial Autonomous Floor Scrubber in Elwood, Illinois
St John Condos helps friends from Elwood, Illinois, plan a shared week at a villa on St. John, a quiet island in the US Virgin Islands. Ask the local team before you book and they will walk you through the details that matter for a group.
A week away with friends from Elwood usually starts with a simple wish: a place where everyone can spend time together without constantly coordinating schedules. A villa rented by the week fits that wish well. There is room to gather in the evenings, cook a shared meal, and still wander off in different directions during the day. Planning it together is part of the fun, and a little advance thought makes the trip feel effortless once everyone arrives. Coming from the Midwest, many travelers are used to driving everywhere, so St. John can feel different. Most visitors reach the island by flying to St. Thomas, then taking a taxi to Red Hook and the passenger ferry to Cruz Bay. Driving on St. John is on the left, which is worth remembering before anyone takes the wheel. Sorting these details early lets your group focus on the easy part, which is enjoying the warm Caribbean days together.

Planning your week from Elwood
- Getting to the island. Most people from Elwood fly into St. Thomas, the airport code STT, and then make the short journey by taxi to Red Hook. From there, the passenger ferry carries you across to Cruz Bay on St. John. Agree on arrival dates as a group so everyone can share one taxi where possible. Keeping luggage manageable makes the ferry crossing simpler for the whole crew.
- Choosing when to leave. Illinois winters are cold, so many travelers from the Midwest look forward to the Caribbean in the darker months. The island stays warm all year, so the choice often comes down to your group's calendar and budget rather than the weather. Pick a window that suits everyone, then book early so the villa and your travel dates line up. Flexibility on either end helps if the group has mixed schedules.
- Planning the stay. Before you book, decide how the group wants to spend its days. Some friends want slow mornings and shared dinners, while others want to explore. Talk through meals, shared costs, and who will handle the driving on the left side of the road. Send your questions to the St John Condos team before you commit, since they answer them directly and can help you match a villa to your group size.
Frequently asked questions
Do we need to rent a car on St. John?
Many groups do, because the villas sit away from the main town and having your own transport gives everyone freedom. Remember that you drive on the left, and take a moment to get comfortable before heading out with the whole group. If the group prefers to stay put, many guests simply enjoy the villa and the resort grounds without ever leaving the property.
How far in advance should a group from Elwood book?
Book as early as your group can agree on dates, since shared travel plans tend to fill up quickly. Once you have a window, ask the St John Condos team about availability for your group size. Early planning also gives everyone time to arrange time off work and plan their flights to St. Thomas.
