Commercial Autonomous Floor Scrubber in Earlham, Iowa
St John Condos can help travelers from Earlham, Iowa, plan a beach-focused stay in villas at the Westin St John Resort on St. John, US Virgin Islands, with a local team ready to answer questions before you book.
From Earlham, a beach trip usually begins a long way from salt water. Iowa is a landlocked state in the Midwest, and many people there look forward to a winter escape where the sand is warm and the water is clear. St. John, in the US Virgin Islands, is a natural fit for that kind of getaway, with the Westin St John Resort offering a base close to the sea. Planning a beach-centered trip from the middle of the country is mostly about setting priorities. You will want to think about how much time you spend in the water, how much you want to explore, and how you will handle the travel. St John Condos rents villas by the week, so you can settle in, unpack once, and let the days follow the tide rather than a tight itinerary.

Planning your beach trip from Earlham
- Reaching St. John. Most visitors fly into St. Thomas, which has the airport code STT, and then take a taxi to Red Hook. From there, a passenger ferry carries you across to Cruz Bay on St. John. Expect a short ride along the way, and keep in mind that driving on the island is on the left, so you may prefer to rely on taxis early on.
- Picking the right season. Iowa winters are cold, so many travelers from Earlham aim for the islands during those months, when the Caribbean is warm and dry. Think about your own tolerance for heat and rain, and about how busy you want the beaches to feel. A quieter stretch of the year can give you more room to settle into the sand and the shallows.
- Planning the stay. Because villas are rented by the week, a beach-focused trip often works best with a few unscheduled days. Decide early whether you want the villa to be your main spot or a home base for outings. Send your questions to the St John Condos team before you book, so they can help you match a villa to the kind of beach days you have in mind.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a car to enjoy the beaches on St. John?
It depends on the beaches you want. Driving is on the left, which takes some getting used to, and roads on the island are winding. Many visitors from Earlham use taxis for the first few outings and decide later whether a rental car suits their plans. The St John Condos team can talk through the options before you book.
Can a villa stay work for a beach trip with a small group?
Yes, villas are a practical choice for a small group that wants shared space near the water. Because they are rented by the week, you can plan slow mornings, long lunches, and afternoons in the sea. Reach out to St John Condos with your group size and the kind of beach days you hope for, and the team can help you choose.
