Commercial Autonomous Floor Scrubber in Decorah, Iowa
St John Condos helps friends from Decorah, Iowa, plan a week away together, with villas at the Westin St John Resort and a local team ready to answer questions before you book.
Friends from Decorah often find that a week on a small island is a welcome change from the long Iowa winter. The Virgin Islands sit far to the south, where the air stays warm and the water stays inviting most of the year. A group can share a villa, cook a few meals together, and spend the days as they like, whether that means lounging by the water or simply talking over coffee on the porch. Planning a trip for several people takes a bit more coordination than a solo getaway, and that is where a local team can help. St John Condos rents villas at the Westin St John Resort by the week, so your group can settle into one place rather than moving from hotel to hotel. Ask about layouts, shared spaces, and what each villa suits before you commit, and you will head south with a clearer picture of the week ahead.

Your week away, planned from Decorah
- Reaching the island. Most visitors fly into St. Thomas, airport code STT, and then take a taxi to Red Hook. From there, a passenger ferry carries you across to Cruz Bay on St. John. Coordinate arrival details within your group so that everyone reaches the ferry together, and keep in mind that driving on St. John is on the left, which is worth remembering if anyone plans to rent a car.
- Choosing when to go. Iowa winters are cold, so many friends from Decorah choose to leave during the coldest months, when a warm island week feels especially welcome. Think about school calendars, work commitments, and what the group values most, such as quiet days or a livelier pace. Talking this through early helps everyone agree on dates before the schedule fills up.
- Planning the stay together. Divide the planning in a simple way, with one person handling bookings, another sorting shared meals, and another gathering everyone's travel details. Decide on a budget for shared costs in advance so no one is caught off guard. Bring a small list of things to do together, and leave room for unplanned afternoons, because a relaxed week often turns out to be the most memorable.
Frequently asked questions
Do we need to book the villa and our flights at the same time?
It helps to settle your dates first, then book the villa for those exact days. Once you have the dates, you can plan flights into St. Thomas and the ferry connection to Cruz Bay. Asking the St John Condos team before you book lets you confirm check-in details so the whole group arrives with a clear plan.
Is a rented villa a good choice for a group from Decorah?
For many groups, a villa offers more room and shared space than separate hotel rooms, with a kitchen for simple meals and a common area to gather. Villas are rented by the week, which suits a longer trip. Ask the team which layout fits your group size and whether the setup works for the way your friends like to spend their days.
