Commercial Autonomous Floor Scrubber in Chillicothe, Illinois

St John Condos helps travelers from Chillicothe, Illinois, plan a beach-focused stay at a villa on St. John, rented by the week near the Westin St John Resort. Our local team answers questions before you book, so you can plan with confidence.

For many people in Chillicothe, a trip built around the beach starts with a simple wish: warm sand, clear water, and a few unhurried days away from the snow and gray skies of a Midwest winter. St. John, in the US Virgin Islands, offers exactly that kind of setting, with calm bays and a relaxed pace that suits a quiet holiday. Here you can plan your days around the water and let the rest fall into place. Because Illinois is far from the Caribbean, it helps to think about your trip as a sequence of simple decisions rather than a single leap. Most visitors fly into St. Thomas, take a taxi to Red Hook, and catch the passenger ferry to Cruz Bay. A villa rented by the week gives you a home base for the beach, so your days can center on swimming, reading, and long lunches rather than constant packing and unpacking.

Planning a beach trip from Chillicothe

1. Getting to St. John. Begin by looking at how you will reach the island. Most travelers from Chillicothe fly to St. Thomas, which is the usual gateway, and then continue by taxi to Red Hook and the passenger ferry to Cruz Bay. Plan for that final ferry crossing and keep your luggage manageable, since carrying bags onto the boat is part of the routine. Once you land, remember that driving on St. John is on the left side of the road.
2. Choosing when to leave. Think about the season before you commit. Illinois winters are cold, so many travelers from Chillicothe are drawn to the islands during the coldest months, while others prefer the quieter weeks when the beach feels more open. Weather on St. John is warm year round, so your choice is really about crowds, budget, and the kind of stillness you want. Make that decision early so your travel plans and time off line up.
3. Planning the stay. Choose a villa that suits the beach routine you have in mind. Because rentals are by the week, you can settle in, learn the rhythm of the island, and return to the sand each morning without rushing. Pack light layers for cooler evenings, reef-safe sunscreen, and water shoes for rocky shorelines. Ask the St John Condos team any questions about the property before you book, so your beach days start smoothly.
