Blairstown sits in the heart of Iowa, a long way from any ocean, so a beach trip starts with a shift in expectations. Many people who live in the Midwest look forward to the change of scenery that comes with warm water, white sand and a slower pace. A trip built around the beach gives you a clear purpose for the journey and a simple daily rhythm. St. John is a small island in the US Virgin Islands, and its beaches are the center of daily life for many visitors. From a villa at the Westin St John Resort, you can plan mornings in the water, lazy afternoons on the sand and evenings that feel unhurried. Our team at St John Condos can help you think through which days to set aside for the shore and how to balance rest with a little exploring.

Planning a beach trip from Blairstown
- Getting to the island. Most visitors reach St. John by flying to St. Thomas, airport code STT, then taking a taxi to Red Hook and the passenger ferry across to Cruz Bay. Build in some breathing room for connections, since travel from the middle of the country is rarely a single leg. Once you land, the island feels close and manageable, and your beach days can begin soon after you step off the boat.
- Choosing when to leave Iowa. Blairstown winters bring cold, gray weather, which is exactly why a warm island appeals to so many people. Think about when your own calendar opens up and when you most want sun and sea. Some travelers prefer to escape deep winter, while others like late spring or early autumn for a gentler shift. Either way, the Caribbean warmth is consistent enough that your choice comes down to personal preference.
- Planning the stay. Villas are rented by the week, which suits a beach-focused trip well, since you can settle in and let the days stretch out. Decide how much of your time you want on the sand versus at the pool or on short outings. Keep in mind that driving on St. John is on the left, so you may want to plan rides with that in mind. Reach out to St John Condos with any questions before you book.
Frequently asked questions
